The design in this picture is a classic example of an Aztec tattoo. Aztec tattoos can be adapted so that it can be placed on any part of the body. But, before you run out and start getting an Aztec tattoo inked on your body let’s talk a little about the history of the Aztecs and the designs associated with them. The Aztecs were an ancient civilization that thrived between the thirteenth century up to around the seventeenth century. They are a civilization that had a diverse culture and their history is really cool. The Aztec tattoos are not only being done for because they look good but it also has a lot of symbolic meaning, some of which involve their worship of particular deities and entities. And everybody in their society got one, even the little ones. For them a tattoo was used to separate the identity of differing groups of individuals living in their magnificent towns. Sometime they were used to distinguish a persons social status as well. This Aztec tattoo is a picture that had significance to a whole lot of them and represents one of their many gods. And to tell you the truth, I really like how this thing looks.
This is a very cool aztec type of tattoo. Very detailed and very much monolithic in appearance. Much like symbols found all over the great Central American pyramids, its meaning is can be interpreted in many ways and for the most part remains an enigma and probably always will. But it’s still very cool.
