Dragonfly Tattoos

Besides the fairy or butterfly tattoos, few designs are more popular among females then the dragonfly tattoo. The image of the dragonfly sparks the creative power of the imagination. Living in an shroud of fantasy, the dragonfly’s fluttering wings invoke thoughts of fairies and angels. They flit from flower to flower, from tree to tree aloof and graceful in their mannerisms. The dragonfly inhabits the realms of both the air and water and by their very nature carry these attributes to their bearers. The dragonfly tattoo speaks of not just fantasy and femininity but also of our fleeting existence and the gracefulness of the human soul. They are the true representatives of beauty and positive change. And the dragonfly tattoo also whispers to our sense of independence and freedom. With two sets of wings, the dragonfly does not need to flutter it’s wings in unison in order to fly as other insects do, this is symbolic of one’s independence and one who marches to the beat of their own drum. It’s an insect that has a wide range of colors, all the colors of the spectrum, and the dragonfly tattoo is often a representation of this nature.

As far as dragonfly tattoos go this one is a pretty cute one. It’s small and not too showy and placed right on someones shoulder which is a good place for it. It’s a very simple piece of art but the color is nice and the execution is well done. The only thing I would do is add a small insect in front of it as if it were in pursuit of its prey.
