Among the animal inspired designs, eagle tattoos have come to the forefront. Typically, this has been a male design but is steadily gaining popularity among a cross section of the female population. Eagle tattoos have been the preferred design for many rough and tumble types, especially those who put themselves into harms way. And the eagle is often used as a symbol for freedom or power. And in ancient civilizations, the eagle has also had a special connection with the sun. That’s probably because ancient man saw that the eagle was capable of flying higher then a lot of other birds and thus be closer to the sun. The eagle has also been associated with various gods in the Mayan, Greek and Roman cultures. So, as you can see the eagle tattoo is a design that can have many different meanings to different people. The symbolism behind the eagle tattoo is pretty straight forward. It symbolizes strength and power. As a matter of fact, Kings and emperors have long included it on their coat of arms as the symbol of supreme strength. If your looking for a bird design that compliments any motif then check out the eagle tattoo.
This is a very well done and very interesting eagle tattoo. The detail and intricate feathering is done very well and the stone arrow heads at the bottom tell us that this is somehow related to the American Indian, or at least that time frame. I have never seen these two things together before and I find it very imaginative.
