There are many peace tattoos that are available today. They include the dove, olive branch and the peace symbol such as the one shown in the picture. But, what are the origins of this sign? According to urban legend the peace sign was thought to be a sign of Satan or a symbol of the occult. And that is probably due to the fact that it looks quite a lot like the Nordic death symbol rune. Actually, the peace sign is a combination of the letters ‘N’ and ‘D’ in semaphore, which is a system of communication using hand-held flags. So, there is absolutely no reason not to get a peace tattoo. And it doesn’t have to be plain either. This wearer placed the symbol over a representation of the planet Earth. It’s not only a very beautiful piece of artwork but also symbolic of the bearer wishing for world peace. You can also add the olive branch or dove in the design to make a more striking tattoo or enrich it’s symbolism. Or you can add other peace tattoo elements such as a white crane, which is the symbol of peace in most parts of Asia.

Some peace tattoos are simply that, a tattoo of a peace sign. But this one having the word ‘Imagine’ over it tells us that this is an homage to John Lennon and his belief that world peace could really be achieved. I’m not sure that’s true, but I am all for trying whatever it might take to make it happen. Nice tattoo.
