Nearly everyone knows the mythology surrounding the Phoenix. The great bird which sets itself ablaze in flames only to be renewed from those same ashes and begin life once again. It’s a second change. A symbol of moving onward and upward. The ancient Egyptians and Greeks believed the Phoenix to be much like the sun, dying each evening over the horizon, only to rise anew once again in the morning and in effect being reborn.
These are all some of the reasons why a phoenix tattoo has become very popular.

Very often a phoenix tattoo will be very large and many times cover nearly the entire back of the person who has it. I have seen smaller ones, but most of them are very large. And they all also usually very colorful as well. You just don’t see too many tattoos of a phoenix rising that is just one flat color. The reason is simple. People like the mythology around the phoenix. The whole idea of renewed birth, a second chance to get things right, and all of that stuff really appeals to people so when they get this type of tattoo they tend to go big. So have fun with yours.

This phoenix tattoo is not really one of the best. The artwork is wanting and the coloring is lacking. I love the idea of the phoenix being a bird of prey that rises from the ashes, and it’s a great concept for a tattoo, I just don’t think this one is a great representation of one. I have seen far better.
