Phoenix tattoos are very powerful and have deep meaning for a lot of people. Since they are symbols of rebirth, people that have overcome a certain obstacle or battle in their life, or were faced with a life threatening situation or illness that made them change their outlook on life, may be quick to get a phoenix tattoo. The phoenix was an important bird in ancient Egypt, Greece, China and Middle Eastern cultures. The phoenix gets it’s name from Greek culture where the term means "red" which is used for the color of fire. The phoenix was a beautiful red bird that was said to live for over 500 years. Greek historians believed that the phoenix came from Ethiopia. Egyptians named the phoenix Benu and they worshiped it as a sun god. In ancient China the phoenix was known as the feng-huang bird which was able to unite marriage as well as the yin and yang. Some other versions of the phoenix stories include that the phoenix would fly to great lengths to gather herbs, and set them on fire along with itself only to rise again three days later. So, as you can see, the phoenix tattoo has great cultural and symbolic meaning. How does this design fit into you personal body ink style.

phoenix tattoos
Some phoenix tattoos will cover most of a persons back like this one does. But most phoenix tattoos are better than this one. The artwork is okay here but the coloring is very flat and the only thing good I can say about it is that the artist did manage to stay within the lines. But I do like the long tail feathers and the shapes of eyes in them. That part is nice.
