Star tattoos have a very large number of different meanings. And of course, the meaning of the star tattoo will vary from person to person. But, here are a few common meanings of this symbol that is old as the universe. Along with guidance and self direction, the star tattoo also can symbolize safety. This relates to primarily to sailors. Because they would tattoo a star as a way to guide themselves home, they were looking to go to a place that felt safe to them. Their ventures on the water were unpredictable but their home was their home. They knew what to expect there so it felt safe to them. By tattooing a star, they always would have that feeling of being safe at home even when they were away at sea. In more recent years, the star tattoo has found additional symbolism. There also is a punk rock connection to stars as well as a lesbian connection. For the latter connection, reports are that women in the 1940s and 1950s would wear nautical star necklaces as a way to show their sexuality. Although these are newer connection to this tattoo, you can have your own reason for getting this tattoo. Whether you follow the original nautical meaning or one of the newer meanings, this tattoo is one of the more popular choices.

A stars tattoo almost always makes for a good choice when one wants something generic and is not looking to really make a statement about anything. They just want a tattoo. So why not a grouping of stars like this? It looks nice and it is not very difficult to put on so I say go for it and enjoy the ink.
