There are several reasons and meanings behind tattoo stars. You could look at them in terms of hopes to being a star or your goals and determination to reach for the stars. Otherwise, for the most part the meaning behind a star will depend on the type of star. Tattoo stars can be as simple as the choice to study in astronomy, or as complicated as to signify the birth a child. Tattoo stars can represent a significant change in one’s life or a desire to achieve high goals. Maybe it represents a bright, shining point in your life. Depending on how many points the star has can also determine the meaning of the star. A few common examples of tattoo stars are the pentagram and the Star Of David. A downward facings pentagram is thought to mimic a ram’s head and is often seen as the sign of the Devil. Otherwise, the pentagram is often seen as a symbol of protection and balance. The six- sided Star Of David symbolizes the interaction of the Divine with humanity. When referred to as the Creator’s Star, the six points each represent a day of the week and the center corresponds with the Sabbath.

This tattoo star field is one that I happen to know. It is that of the constellation of the warrior Orion. The head, the two shoulders, the two feet and then the three stars in the middle are meant to be his sword hanging from his belt. This constellation is very often quite recognizable in the night sky to those who look for it. And this tattoo is very meaningful to those who know what it is and certainly to the girl that is wearing it.

As a young teenager I felt a kind of connection to this Orion character and use to salute it, Roman style, every time I saw it in the night sky, as if we were somehow communicating with each other. And at the time I thought of it as very cool. I guess it is part of how most all of us feel connected to the stars somehow. I am not really sure. I did not think a single tattoo star like this one would bring all of this back, but one never knows what might be conjured up by looking at a tattoo.
