Looking at this beautiful tattoo design I started thinking about the art of tattoos in general. There are actually a few bits of trivia that the average person may not know about this beautiful art form. I wanted to find out who had invented tattoos and who had invented the first modern tattoo machine. What I found out may surprise you. During the Egyptian times tattoos were not borne simply to be displayed on bodies as forms of artwork but for symbolic reasons. The earliest tattoos were borne by women on their legs as a superstitious measure of protection against the dangers of childbirth. It was from Egypt that the practice of tattooing spread to other parts of Africa as well as into Asia and the Pacific Islands through various means such as through trade lines and travelers. And did you know who invented the modern tattoo gun? Thomas Edison was reputed to have invented the first tattoo machine in 1876 as an electric engraver but years later it evolved into the machine that would start the new tattooing revolution. From this period onwards tattooing machines started to become more and more advanced. Samuel O’Reilly worked on the original blueprints of Edison in order to create the electric pen which provided advancement in the way tattoos were etched onto the body. To me the art of tattooing is one that never fails to keep impressing me

These samples of tattoo art are six standards that have been around for a pretty long time and you can find them, or ones very much like them, in just about any tattoo shop. Looking at these its hard to choose a favorite because I like them all equally. But if one strikes you as something special then go for it.
