Tattoos are something that are beautiful and symbolic and can add a lot of value to a person’s life. Especially when you consider it’s a very personal art form. But, tattoos also require a lot of attention and care to keep them looking their best and to prevent them from getting infected. The first thing to remember after you have gotten your tattoo is to leave the bandage on it. Remember that your newly inked design is actually a wound on the skin that requires care. Leave the bandage on for a minimum of two hours and resist the temptation to uncover it and show your friends. They can wait till later to view it. After you remove the bandage, you will want to wash your new tattoo. Use lukewarm water and mild, liquid antibacterial or antimicrobial soap. Do not use a washcloth or anything abrasive to clean your tattoo. Your hand is your best tool in this case. After you have washed it, use a clean dry towel to pat it, not rub it, dry. The final thing you’ll want to do is to apply a triple antibiotic ointment to the design and keep it moist by reapplying frequently. With the proper care you new tattoo will bring you a lifetime of enjoyment.
