I have been told that turtle tattoos can stand for a whole long list of things but in today’s day and age I think their popularity rests completely on the fact that most people in the west, and in the east as well, look upon most sea creatures in a favorable light. And this of course includes turtles. Almost everyone seems to have a great liking for the giant sea turtles that live in our oceans and the one in this tattoo sort of looks like one of those. It has flippers for feet and it’s shell and skin color are very close to the real thing that we see on the nature shows.

Most of us will probably never get a chance to be close enough to one of these creatures to touch it or to hold on to its shell while it pulls us along through the water but I have to believe that nearly everyone would like to be able to do that once in their lives but for us it’s probably just going to be seeing turtle tattoos. It’s just part of that connection we have with the other creatures on this planet. Wow, whoever though turtle tattoos would bring all this out.

This is a good example of the aztec or mayan styles of turtle tattoos. It is difficult by this picture to tell what we are seeing in the center so I won’t make any guess on what it might stand for. But we do know that in many ancient cultures turtles were held in high regard and certainly this example of turtle tattoos is some representation of those times.
